The Progressive UPP partisans in the US find it difficult to understand how UPP that opposed the True Whig Party regime of the late Williams R. Tolbert can at this time support the corrupt regime of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
The Progressive UPP Partisans comprised of all concerned UPP members in the United States of America. The Progressive UPP partisans was founded in 2010 as the legitimate arm of the United Peopleís Party (UPP) who believes that the party in Monrovia, Liberia is treading a wrong path in maintaining multi parties democracy in Liberia. Progressive UPP Partisans in the US through Political Action has been in the vanguard of the party. UPP partisans in the US in the past has worked with former Chairman in Emeritus the late G. Baccus Matthews and other partisans in Monrovia to reverse a Wesley Johnsonís decision for the party to collaborate with LAP, LUP and Unity Party in 1984. The reasons the Wesley Johnsonís decision was reversed were because it was not broad base and participatory as well as it undermines the progressive principles of the party. Members of the party saw the LAP, LUP and UP as anti progressives institutions which had no vision to improve the lives of the Liberian people.
The United Peopleís Party constitution in article II, which states that ďThe members of the party shall have the right to make, alter, reform and/or revise, in such manner as provided for in this constitution, any provision herein, or to cause party leaders to fill or leave offices, and/or change any party policy that is contrary to, or would tend to undermine, their common interestsĒ. The party decision making is such that the National Party Congress is the highest decision making body of the party. In the absence of the National Party Congress, the Executive Committee is the highest executive body of the United People party. It foremost responsibility is to execute and/or implement all decisions reached by the National Party Congress.
The two years term of Marcus Dahnís executive committee has expired and as such they have no right to collaborate or merge the party with any party in the absence of a National Party Congress decision.
Progressive UPP partisans in the United States categorically denounced any collaboration, merger with any party in Liberia in the absence of a National Party Congress.
Progressive UPP partisans in the United States of America are calling on all partisans to consider the Marcus Dahnís Decision for the party to collaborate or merge with the ruling Unity Party of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf null and void because the entire process violate the constitution of the United Peopleís Party.
